The new record Sundays at the Rocket Park has been out for about 3 weeks now and I wanted to share some of the fantastical reviews that have come out and thank some of the special sites and shows that have been featuring it.

First of all, here's a brief excerpt from the OWTK feature:
Todd McHatton isn't a name ever mentioned when discussing the best working songwriters for kids.  I kinda think it should be.  What the California native accomplishes with "Sundays at the Rocket Park" (and previously with his outstanding, free Christmas Songs EP) is rather remarkable; an entire full-length kiddie album easily capable of passing for a dense, moody, very hip indie rock CD - the kind of disc Stereogum or Pitchfork might gush over.
Please go here now and check out this awesome site and read the review in it's entirety.

Pied Piper Radio said:
Todd McHatton's most recent album, Sundays at the Rocket Park, is our pick of the week! Lightly psychedelic pop, sprinkled with well measured doses of glam rock and power pop, inspired by, and made for his family. Log in here to listen to the entire feature/interview.

Chris Ballew - the awesome force behind The Presidents of the United States of America and Caspar Babypants said this about the new album: "This new Todd McHatton album is trippy fantastical brilliant and expansive...like lost b-sides to a "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" single...this sounds like the inside of a child's fertile mind." And then he wrapped it up with... "Cheers and congratulations on a truly killer album!" Check out his awesome Caspar Babypants project here!

And thanks to our hometown internet radio show, Radio Ojai who called Sundays at the Rocket Park: "A wildly entertaining mix of pschedelic, family-friendly pop songs."

Please go over to these amazing radio shows and thank them for playing all the Todd McHatton tunes for me... and let them know you want to here more!

Okay, so I've been holding out... I've got a lot of new songs that I have not been posting here. They're all being saved up for "The Green Thing" record which probably won't be released until next year now. We've got a lot to do with the brand new album "Sundays at the Rocket Park" coming out in 3 days!!! There's videos to make and much fun to be had but I just did this tune this morning and really liked it so thought I'd share. It may not make a lot of sense out of context as it's part of a larger story but I hope you enjoy it.
I want to give a huge thanks to Pied Piper Radio for pulling me out of my shell and getting me to do an interview for "Sundays at the Rocket Park" - you should be able to get it here any day now. I also want to thank The Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl, OWTK, and Zooglobble for previewing the album (and my tribute to Harry)...Thank You!

Dana.jpgHere's a brand new little power pop tune. Let me know what you think.

We've been preparing for the release of the new album, working on videos, and having some fun around here.

We attended the AWESOME Cinefamily event in May showcasing the origins of Yo Gabba Gabba. We met DJ Lance Rock and sat there with the entire cast and crew while creators Christian Jacobs (lead singer of the Aquabats) and Scott Schultz showed film clips (including their first home-made test shoot) and discussed what influenced the creation of the show.

In my spare time I decided to throw my hat in the ring over at Song Fight with a new tune this week. I played the game a lot last year but this is my first entry for 2010. "Dana Wears Dresses" is their title for the week. Give all the tunes a listen over there and vote for your favorites!

If you'd like to hear my new record, Sundays at the Rocket Park, before it comes out and you think you might write something nice about it and spread the news online please drop me a line.

Time to Start the Countdown...

Sundays at the Rocket Park (bonus track).mp3

rocket park countdown.jpgIt looks like we can finally start the countdown to the new album release. It takes so much time getting everything together but it looks like we're finally on our way. I let myself get a little distracted with the saz this morning and put this together as a possible "bonus track" and, as usual, if you're visiting here you know you're getting everything before the "official" version comes out (usually it's a little, sometimes a lot, rougher version- but hey, it's free!).
Stay tuned for the release date and more tracks from upcoming releases.

A Flurry Of Furry Birdies.mp3

a flurry of furry birdies by todd mchatton.jpgA brand new song... yay!
I really like this one. Download it, pass it around, email it, facebook it, re-mix it, make videos with it, do whatever you like, but most importantly...
Have fun with it.

A Flurry Of Furry Birdies
A flurry of furry birdies went over my head - Birdy beards wrapped in beaks and feats and this is what they said - They said, "what would you think about before we all started headin' south you gave us a shave" - A flurry of furry - A flurry of furry birdies - I said little birdies I'll do just what I can - Down flew birdy Dave and down flew birdy Stan - They helped get a birdy barber chair set up on top of a mountain - So I went to get my razor and birdy scissors - While birdy Dave and birdy Stan went back to get their brothers and sisters - And when I got back to that mountain top the entire thing had been filled right up - There was a billion birds and their hair was everywhere - A flurry of furry - A flurry of furry birdies - Birdy Dave and birdy Stan said, "that's all that we can ask" - They hopped into the chair we'd set up on top of a mountain - A flurry of furry - A flurry of furry birdies - And we're still here - There's hair everywhere - Yes we're still here - And there's birdy hair everywhere
