Okay, so I’ve been holding out… I’ve got a lot of new songs that I have not been posting here. They’re all being saved up for “The Green Thing” record which is still deep in the works. We’ve got a lot to do with the brand new album “Sundays at the Rocket Park” coming out in 3 days!!! There’s videos to make and much fun to be had but I just did this tune this morning and really liked it so thought I’d share. It may not make a lot of sense out of context as it’s part of a larger story but I hope you enjoy it.

1 You’ve Got Something Here!
1 It’s Summer Time!
Happy Father’s Day!
and,
Happy Summer Time everybody!
Here’s a brand new happy summer time tune I wrote this afternoon.
And,
Here’s a link to my most incredible Father’s Day Present… a brand new animated video from my amazing son. It’s for a song from the second volume of Grass Stained Twilight (release date still yet to be determined). My kids are absolutely amazing. I love you guys!
Just a reminder, the new record “Sundays at the Rocket Park” comes out July 21st, 2010 and you can download the first single absolutely free right here.
1 Happy Birthday Harry
2 Dana Wears Dresses
Here’s a brand new little power pop tune. Let me know what you think.
We’ve been preparing for the release of the new album, working on videos, and having some fun around here.
We attended the AWESOME Cinefamily event in May showcasing the origins of Yo Gabba Gabba. We met DJ Lance Rock and sat there with the entire cast and crew while creators Christian Jacobs (lead singer of the Aquabats) and Scott Schultz showed film clips (including their first home-made test shoot) and discussed what influenced the creation of the show.
In my spare time I decided to throw my hat in the ring over at Song Fight with a new tune this week. I played the game a lot last year but this is my first entry for 2010. “Dana Wears Dresses” is their title for the week. Give all the tunes a listen over there and vote for your favorites!
If you’d like to hear my new record, Sundays at the Rocket Park, before it comes out and you think you might write something nice about it and spread the news online please drop me a line.
3 Don’t Stop It Won’t Pop
0 Time to Start the Countdown…
It looks like we can finally start the countdown to the new album release. It takes so much time getting everything together but it looks like we’re finally on our way. I let myself get a little distracted with the saz this morning and put this together as a possible “bonus track” and, as usual, if you’re visiting here you know you’re getting everything before the “official” version comes out (usually it’s a little, sometimes a lot, rougher version- but hey, it’s free!).
Stay tuned for the release date and more tracks from upcoming releases.
2 A Flurry Of Furry Birdies
A brand new song… yay!
I really like this one. Download it, pass it around, email it, facebook it, re-mix it, make videos with it, do whatever you like, but most importantly…
Have fun with it.
A Flurry Of Furry Birdies
A flurry of furry birdies went over my head – Birdy beards wrapped in beaks and feats and this is what they said – They said, “what would you think about before we all started headin’ south you gave us a shave” – A flurry of furry – A flurry of furry birdies – I said little birdies I’ll do just what I can – Down flew birdy Dave and down flew birdy Stan – They helped get a birdy barber chair set up on top of a mountain – So I went to get my razor and birdy scissors – While birdy Dave and birdy Stan went back to get their brothers and sisters – And when I got back to that mountain top the entire thing had been filled right up – There was a billion birds and their hair was everywhere – A flurry of furry – A flurry of furry birdies – Birdy Dave and birdy Stan said, “that’s all that we can ask” – They hopped into the chair we’d set up on top of a mountain – A flurry of furry – A flurry of furry birdies – And we’re still here – There’s hair everywhere – Yes we’re still here – And there’s birdy hair everywhere
2 Yes This Is a New One
2 This Tree House is a Bargain
Still working out how we might publish a quick little video with each song I post this year. Thought scanning a few thumbnails would do the trick. Still have some things to work-out but I’m going crazy not posting regularly. Decided to just start putting things up again even if they’re not completely done and release the finished stuff in future packages.
The new album is coming along well. I’m doing a special limited run, hand-made cd/book for those that want more than just the download version. It doesn’t look like we’ll make the projected February release date though. We’re making some studio repairs/upgrades tonight and things are sounding beautiful! I’ll keep you posted.
3 Yes, I’m Still Here… and Thank You!
Hello everyone! Just a quick note to say I haven’t forgotten about you. I have been working hard to get the new album ready and have even put together a few new random tracks as well.
(Let’s not spread these around guys. They’re just intended as a couple of little lo-fi “one-offs”.)
One is a Joanna Newsom cover for a little “Gift Of Music” project…
And, the other, a quick little ditty for my son who wanted a hard rock song to animate his “Cuddle Monster” band to…
I am absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude for all the kind words and reviews from everyone for the “Christmas Songs” EP.
You who frequent this place already know how much Harry Nilsson means to me. To be featured on this beautiful site and receive all those over the top comments… well, it was just too much. I actually cried. Thank you.
I’ve also got to thank:
“The Art of Irreverence” – she said:
This is THE indie pop album of the season. It’s been compared to The Flaming Lips and The Shins. In what world would you not want to obtain this EP immediately? You’ll thank me later.
(yes, I’m still thanking you… thank you!)
Zooglobble for picking it as one of their top 8 Holiday Albums of the year (and for recently featuring our video for “Super Friend Vacation” from a couple of years ago).
Warren Truitt over at Kids Music That Rocks and About.com who writes some of my favorite reviews and who also featured my “Happy Vegan Thanksgiving” tune.
Spare The Rock Spoil The Child for playing one of the Christmas songs on their Holiday Show and for playing “It’s A Breeze”, the opener from “Grass Stained Twilight”, on their first show of 2010. These are fantastic radio shows featured on 93.9 The River in Northampton, MA and 101.5 in Battleboro, VT.
OWTK (Out With The Kids) for featuring the Christmas EP and for the awesome tweets.
Nugget Island for the tweeting.
Almost There Radio for the play on their Chrismas Eve show.
And one more thing,
One little dream I’ve had since I started posting here was to someday be part of a Scott Simon/Daniel Pinkwater conversation on NPR. I think I got something better though when Daniel Pinkwater played “A Pudgy Pig and a Fuzzy Peach” (again, from “Grass Stained Twilight”) on his amazing Pinkwater Podcast. Thank You!
So, two more little dreams to go…
Looking forward to playing that musical guest set on Saturday Night Live with Paul McCartney and doing that soundtrack for the next Pixar film!
Thank you again everyone!
We’ve got a nice animated video and new song coming up shortly… stay tuned.
