3 Sundays at the Rocket Park makes Time Out New York Kids List of Best kids’ albums of 2010!

To have Todd McHatton / Sundays at the Rocket Park included on Time Out New York Kids List of Best Kids Albums of 2010 with so many phenomenally great artists is absolutely overwhelming.

As those of you who’ve been visiting here over the last several years know, this has been a total, absolute blast – writing songs, drawing pictures and comics, publishing my first book – all completely and exclusively for the fun. joy, and entertainment it provides me and my family – and look what’s happened, we got an audience!

I don’t think I’ve ever done a mchatton.com update without a brand new tune attached to it but I just really really wanted to thank Jeff Bogle at OWTK and TimeOut New York Kids in a really big way… pure and simple. I absolutely love making music and it is so incredibly gratifying to know that so many more people are hearing it now. I had actually been struggling with the idea of having to incorporate anything “business like” into all of this fun – publicity, advertising, networking, sales, merchandising, etc. The idea of messing up all this fun with all that… well, “work” was not really part of the original dream.

Because of people like Jeff Bogle, Amberly Warnke over at Pied Piper Radio/Ages 3 and Up, Dave Loftin over at the Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl, and Bill Childs over at Spare the Rock Spoil the Child I’ve been given the opportunity to continue focusing on the joyful stuff and they’ve brought more of you here for me to share it with. Thank You SO MUCH!
Since this is a big brag and thanks I should also mention that 2 Songs from the album also made OWTK’s Favorite 50 Kindie Songs of 2010 and the artwork made the list as one of OWTK’s Top 15 Kindie Album Art/CD Covers of 2010!

Get Sundays at the Rocket Park on CD here.
Get Sundays at the Rocket Park download here.
There’s a whole lot more fun on the way this month and some big projects for 2011… stay tuned!

Bears Bare Bare Bears
She brought her newborn cub – Out to show ’em it – She proudly held him up – Right there over them – How come he’s got nothin’ on – But the hair he came in? – Bears bare bare bears – The Bears weren’t aware – They’re only born with hair – And as they looked around – They started to compare – It gave them quite a scare – Though some looked debonair – Bears bare bare bears – Just like the other animals do – Bears bare bears in their birthday suits – Bears bare bare bears

Yes! It’s another new song! And yes it’s about animals again (Andy). I don’t care. I happen to love animals… and I’m diggin’ this tune too.
We just got some amazing news about Sundays at the Rocket Park. I don’t think I can announce it officially yet but I’ll let you know as soon as I can.

The proof of Grass Stained Twilight has arrived and it looks awesome. I was going to post those images today but then this little bear thing came to me and it just seemed like more fun. We’ll have the local and online shops restocked with Grass Stained Twilight within the next week or so and we’ll finally have some Sundays at the Rocket Park cd’s stocked in the local stores as well. If you need a stack for the record store in your neighborhood please drop me a line… or just go on over and download them here.
Thank you again!

Tracks

Tommy Had A Super Towel
Tommy had a Super Towel – That Super Towel was rockin’ – Sometimes he wore it like a cape – And sometimes he placed it on his noggin – Sometimes he used it to escape – And some said “the way that boy behaves is shocking” – He likes to take it to the lake – He likes to take it to the pool – Some people say that it looks great – And some people say he looks like a fool – And they wonder why he’s always wet – It’s because Tommy has not figured out how to dry himself off with it yet – It’s a Super Towel – Tommy had a Super Towel – Thrown up like a parachute on the bow – Sailin’ over everyone high up in the clouds – How he got it – No one knows how – Tommy had a Super Towel – He took it everywhere and some people turned and looked away  – And some people would stop and strangely stare at him – He loved it’s rectangularish shape – And the way the wonderful wind lifted him up into the air again and again and again – He flys – From place to place to place – He flys – No one knows how or why – They say to stay soaked in space is a waste – But Tommy likes to air dry – It’s a Super Towel – You use it to fly – Tommy had a Super Towel – Thrown up like a parachute on the bow – Sailin’ over everyone high up in the clouds

Another new song! And I really like this one. I feel like I’m right there with him.
I know, I know… “what happened to the Song-a-Week Thing”? Well, I’ve discovered the joy of animating and we’re working up some brand new cartoon videos to go along with the Sundays at the Rocket Park tunes. I’ll try to start documenting the progress with those here soon. With the recent success of the new album we received enough orders of the first disc, Grass Stained Twilight, that we have officially run out of the super-cool hand-made-deluxe-special-paper-bag packaging. But if you couldn’t get your hands on a copy, fear not… we’ve had such wonderful service with Amazon’s Createspace that there’s a complete re-launch of that album with some new inside/backside artwork. I didn’t touch the mixes though – they’re the exact same lo-fi goodness you’re hearing over there on the Bandcamp site. I am loving this service because it’s completely “on-demand” – there’s no waste at all, and the quality is absolutely beautiful. I’ll post some photos as soon as the proof arrives. Soon thereafter it’ll be back up at CD Baby and Amazon again.
Please get over to OWTK, Pied Piper Radio, Zooglobble, Nugget Island, The Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl, Spare the Rock Spoil the Child, and all of the other amazing, wonderful sites featuring awesome tunes for the whole family. This right here is the greatest moment in the history of recorded music – artists doing exactly what they want with lots of beautiful communities to support them.
Thank You!  And stay tuned for more Fun & Adventure!!!

0 Woo Hoo! Sundays at the Rocket Park is a Hit!

The new record Sundays at the Rocket Park has been out for about 3 weeks now and I wanted to share some of the fantastical reviews that have come out and thank some of the special sites and shows that have been featuring it.

First of all, here’s a brief excerpt from the OWTK feature:
Todd McHatton isn’t a name ever mentioned when discussing the best
working songwriters for kids.  I kinda think it should be.  What the
California native accomplishes with “Sundays at the Rocket Park” (and
previously with his outstanding, free Christmas Songs EP)
is rather remarkable; an entire full-length kiddie album easily capable
of passing for a dense, moody, very hip indie rock CD – the kind of
disc Stereogum or Pitchfork might gush over.

Please go here now and check out this awesome site and read the review in it’s entirety.

Pied Piper Radio said:
Todd McHatton’s most recent album, Sundays at the Rocket Park,
is our pick of the week! Lightly psychedelic pop, sprinkled with well
measured doses of glam rock and power pop, inspired by, and made for his
family.
Log in here to listen to the entire feature/interview.

Chris Ballew – the awesome force behind The Presidents of the United States of America and Caspar Babypants said this about the new album: “This new Todd McHatton album is trippy fantastical brilliant and
expansive…like lost b-sides to a “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”
single…this sounds like the inside of a child’s fertile mind.”
And then he wrapped it up with…
“Cheers and congratulations on a truly killer album!” Check out his awesome Caspar Babypants project here!

Please go over to these amazing radio shows and thank them for playing all the Todd McHatton tunes for me… and let them know you want to here more!

Thank you again and please, tell your friends to go get Sundays at the Rocket Park.

(and don’t forget to leave some nice reviews on iTunes and Amazon for me too!)

Okay, so I’ve been holding out… I’ve got a lot of new songs that I have not been posting here. They’re all being saved up for “The Green Thing” record which is still deep in the works. We’ve got a lot to do with the brand new album “Sundays at the Rocket Park” coming out in 3 days!!! There’s videos to make and much fun to be had but I just did this tune this morning and really liked it so thought I’d share. It may not make a lot of sense out of context as it’s part of a larger story but I hope you enjoy it.

I want to give a huge thanks to Pied Piper Radio for pulling me out of my shell and getting me to do an interview for “Sundays at the Rocket Park” – you should be able to get it here any day now. I also want to thank The Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl, OWTK, and Zooglobble for previewing the album (and my tribute to Harry)…Thank You!

Here’s a brand new little power pop tune. Let me know what you think.

We’ve been preparing for the release of the new album, working on videos, and having some fun around here.

We attended the AWESOME Cinefamily event in May showcasing the origins of Yo Gabba Gabba. We met DJ Lance Rock and sat there with the entire cast and crew while creators Christian Jacobs (lead singer of the Aquabats) and Scott Schultz showed film clips (including their first home-made test shoot) and discussed what influenced the creation of the show.

In my spare time I decided to throw my hat in the ring over at Song Fight with a new tune this week. I played the game a lot last year but this is my first entry for 2010. “Dana Wears Dresses” is their title for the week. Give all the tunes a listen over there and vote for your favorites!

If you’d like to hear my new record, Sundays at the Rocket Park, before it comes out and you think you might write something nice about it and spread the news online please drop me a line.
